Olympia Kiwanis Gardens
Olympia Kiwanis Club and Foundation have been raising vegetables for the
Thurston County Food Bank since 1990. The
project started with the garden
on 11th Avenue NW on the west side of
Olympia. Crops this year on the west side
include tomatoes, carrots, pole beans, winter
squash, beets, broccoli,
cauliflower and Asian cabbage.
In 2010 two additional garden spaces were added,
one on Friendly Grove Rd
NW., where this year we are growing cabbage,
carrots, beets and garlic.
The third garden, Washington State Capitol
Campus, north of the Employment
Security Building on the East Campus, is growing
onions, garlic, potatoes and
The vegetables are taken to the Food Bank when
they are harvested.
In recent years, the gardens have produced
between 25,000 to 35,000 pounds
of vegetables per year.
The gardens are sponsored by Olympia Kiwanis
Club and are supported by the
Food Bank, local organizations and volunteers.
