The Kiwanis Clubs of Thurston County recognized local community volunteers at the 2009 Thurston County Volunteer Citizen of the Year awards luncheon on April 26, 2010, at St. Martin's Worthington Center.
The winner and 4 nominees were (left to right):
Winner ELI STERLING - Olympia Community member who created and continues to organize the annual Procession of the Species.
Nominee: LINDA KLEINGARTNER from the Junior League of Olympia and organizer of the TRACK STARS at Garfield Elementary School.
Nominee: PAULA MINKLER, from TOGETHER, who gives METCH 360 presentations to local high school classes to fight drug use.
Nominee: DEREK VALLEY, from the Olympia Kiwanis Club who works for the Kiwanis Gardens to grow fresh food for the food bank.
Nominee: KATHY BAROS FRIEDT - could not be present, so her husband garciously stood in for her. Ms. Friedt facilited the Planned Giving Program for Community Youth Services, and volunteers for the Dispute Resolution Center.
The Thurston County Citizen of the Year program has been in place since 1967, recognizing the volunteers and their accomplishments here at our home community.
